What Is Canvas? Understand how Canvas is made

Canvas bag style, materials, and production process

The styles of canvas bags are usually divided into coarse canvas bags and fine canvas bags.

Coarse sail cloth bags, also known as tarpaulins, have good waterproof performance, are sturdy and durable, and are commonly used for covering car transportation and outdoor warehouses, as well as setting up tents in the wild. Fine sail cloth bags are used to make labor protection clothing and its supplies. After dyeing or printing, they can also be used as shoe materials, luggage fabrics, handbags, backpacks, tablecloths, tablecloths, etc.

The main materials used for canvas bags are thick cotton or linen fabrics.

The thickness of canvas is calculated based on the warp and weft density of the woven fabric, and the theoretical maximum ampere number is only 10 amperes, which is 10s * 10s. Usually, the amperage of canvas is between 6 amps and 24 amps, and there are few that exceed this range.

Canvas 6A, 8A, 10A, 12A, 16A, 18A, and 20A refer to the warp and weft density of canvas, where the higher the number of amperes, the tighter the canvas, and the thicker the texture. Specifically:

The warp and weft density of 6-inch canvas is 6 * 6, which means there are 6 warp and 6 weft yarns per square inch.

The warp and weft density of 8A canvas is 8 * 8, which means there are 8 warp and 8 weft yarns per square inch.

The warp and weft density of 10 ampere canvas is 10 * 10, which means there are 10 warp and 10 weft yarns per square inch.

The warp and weft density of 12 ampere canvas is 12 * 12, which means there are 12 warp and 12 weft yarns per square inch.

The warp and weft density of 16A canvas is 16 * 16, which means there are 16 warp and 16 weft yarns per square inch.

The warp and weft density of 18A canvas is 18 * 18, which means there are 18 warp and 18 weft yarns per square inch.

The warp and weft density of 20 ampere canvas is 20 * 20, which means there are 20 warp and 20 weft yarns per square inch.

Canvas with different ampere numbers have different characteristics and uses. For example, 6-ampere canvas is relatively coarse and commonly used as a canopy, while 16 ampere and 20 ampere canvas are relatively tight and thick, commonly used as labor protection clothing and supplies.

The production process of canvas bags mainly includes steps such as fabric weaving, printing and dyeing, and sewing.

Among them, fabric weaving is the first step in making canvas bags, including weaving, bleaching, dyeing and other processes. Printing and dyeing involves printing patterns on canvas bags, which can be done through methods such as screen printing or heat transfer printing. Sewing involves cutting the printed canvas into the desired shape and size, and then sewing it to form the final canvas bag.

Overall, canvas bags come in various styles and are mainly made of thick cotton or linen fabrics. The production process includes steps such as fabric weaving, printing and dyeing, and sewing. Different styles, materials, and production processes can all affect the quality and performance of the final canvas bag.

Printing on canvas

There are various processes, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Screen printing: Using water-based elastic adhesive as the printing medium, the color paste and water-based elastic adhesive are mixed during printing. When developing the printing plate, chemical solvents are not used and can be directly rinsed with water.
  2. Heat transfer printing: requires an intermediate medium, which first prints the image and text onto the heat transfer film or paper, and then transfers the pattern onto the canvas by heating the transfer equipment. The commonly used medium in textile printing is heat transfer film.
  3. Digital printing: Printing using digital technology, the principle is the same as inkjet printers. The characteristics of this printing are very fine and clear, similar to the characteristics of photos and hand drawn, and do not require printing. The production cycle is short and can adapt to small batch production, and the color is very rich.
  4. Thermal sublimation printing: sublimation printing is also a type of transfer printing, which requires an intermediate medium, that is, first printing the image and text onto a thermal transfer film or paper, and then transferring the pattern onto polyester canvas by heating the transfer equipment.
  5. Water slurry printing: Compared to other printing techniques, water slurry printing is a traditional printing technique. Due to the clear color of the water slurry, it can only be suitable for printing on light colored fabrics, and the printing effect is relatively simple. However, from the trend of printing, it is highly favored by many designers due to its soft texture, strong breathability, and rich expressive power.
  6. Foam printing with adhesive: This printing technique involves adding foaming materials to the adhesive, and after printing, high-temperature ironing is used to create a three-dimensional effect on the printing area. Due to the complexity of this printing technology during use, only a small number of non-woven bag factories use this technology.
  7. Environmentally friendly adhesive printing: The advantages of this printing technology are mainly reflected in its strong color covering ability, which is suitable for printing fashionable printing pictures with clear lines, regular edges, and accurate overprinting. It is mainly used for printing medium fashion and T-shirts, and is also suitable for a wide range of fabrics.

These are the printing techniques for canvas, each with its unique characteristics and application scope.

Canvas bags are environmentally friendly, fashionable, and durable packaging bags widely used in various fields such as gifts, shopping, and storage.

Below are some characteristics and usage methods of canvas bag packaging:

characteristic

(1) Environmental protection: Canvas is an environmentally friendly material that can be reused to reduce pollution to the environment.
